Women’s Foundation of Boston Announces 2020 Grant Winners

Boston-based nonproft grants $745,000 to eight outstanding organizations serving women and girls in our community.

The Women’s Foundation of Boston (WFB) is proud to announce the eight winners of its 2020 year-end grants to programs for women and girls in the Boston area. WFB has granted $1.7 million since its inception in 2017.

Our grant winners will operate new programs which promote economic opportunities for women and girls in our community. In selecting our grantees, we evaluated program impact, financial efficiency, innovation, operational experience and leadership vision.

The eight winners of the Women’s Foundation of Boston 2020 grants are:

Mother Caroline Academy: The two-year $120,000 grant will fund Mother Caroline Academy’s new outreach and admissions coordinator. This new hire will target boosting enrollment, improving diversity and reaching a broader community at this tuition-free all-girl non-sectarian middle school in Dorchester. (https://www.mcaec.org/)

Big Sister Association of Greater Boston: The three-year $150,000 award will fund an additional coach for one-on-one counseling to young women on career opportunities, fnancial literacy, and college readiness. This new hire will expand the existing coaching program to women ages 14-24 and support their post-secondary success and fnancial independence. (https://www.bigsister.org)

Budget Buddies, Inc.: The three-year $135,000 grant will fund the extension of Budget Buddies’ Virtual Financial Empowerment program to women and teen girls in Boston. (https:// budgetbuddies.org/)

Dress for Success Boston: The three-year $30,000 grant will fund monthly “Confdence Days” for young Boston women, where they will learn about careers, job interview skills, clothing and grooming, and other work-readiness activities. (https://boston.dressforsuccess.org/)

Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts: The three-year $90,000 grant will partially fund “It’s a Girl’s World” in Worcester, which provides free programs in STEM projects, financial literacy, and healthy living for lower-income girls without access to traditional Girl Scout troop activities. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts: The one-year $50,000 grant will fund the “Girl Scouts at Home” online program which features STEM projects in solar energy and engineering, as well as provide financial aid to make Girl Scout programs accessible to all girls in our community. . Girls on the Run Greater Boston: This three-year $120,000 grant will provide underserved girls in Boston with the opportunity to experience Girls on the Run’s proven youth development after-school programs which incorporate running - and support girls’ physical and emotional health. Science Club for Girls: This one-year $50,000 grant will fund two interns from populations underrepresented in STEM education and careers to help augment the organization’s virtual programming, communication, and community outreach efforts. (https://www.scienceclubforgirls.org/)
