Next Step Living Takes $2.5M Step in Financing - cbl

BOSTON -- Residential energy-efficiency company Next Step Living has raised $2.49 million of a $4 million equity offering, according to an SEC filing.
Principals named are CEO Geoff Chapin, COO Brian Greenfield and directors John McQuillan and Rob Day, of Boston, and Sean Ladley, of Charlotte, N.C. About $300,000 of the proceeds will be used to pay annual aggregate executive salaries.
Boston-based Next Step Living Inc., founded in 2008, provides home energy diagnostics and improvements to the greater New England area.
In April 2009, the company raised $830,000 in equity, according to a Reg D filing at the time -- the company's first SEC filing on record.

Geoff Chapin - CEO
Prior to starting Next Step Living, Geoff served at the senior Steps of the Bridgespan Group, a strategy consulting firm for public entities and non-profits. Clients included the Energy Foundation, The City of San Francisco, The Portland Public School District, and the Packard Foundation. Prior to this Geoff led teams at Bain & Company in the New York and San Francisco offices where he advised clients in the consumer products, telecom, and online industries amongst others. Geoff served as a teacher at his Alma Mater The Roxbury Latin School and is a graduate of The Kennedy School of Government and MIT's Sloan School of Management. Prior to this he worked at a consulting firm in the healthcare, nonprofit, and financial services sectors. Geoff has also worked in the public housing sector at the Community Builders in Boston and advised the Housing Authority of San Francisco. Geoff is a native of the Boston area having grown up and lived in Westwood, Dedham, Wellesley, West Roxbury, Newton and Brookline.
Brian Greenfield - COO
Prior to joining NSL, Brian served as General Manager of Vista Financial Inc. (VFI), a subsidiary of Performant Financial Corporation. Performant is a business process outsourcing firm with a focus on the higher education industry serving U.S. government and private agencies. VFI provides student loan counseling services for national lenders. After taking over the lead of VFI, Brian brought in numerous clients, including First Marblehead, Citibank, College Loan Corporation and American Education Services and grew the operations from 10 to over 120 employees in less than a year. Prior to Performant, Brian worked as an Associate at Parthenon Capital, a middle-market private equity firm. While at Parthenon, Brian focused on the financial services and business process outsourcing industries. Prior to Parthenon, Brian worked as an Analyst in the investment banking division of Morgan Stanley. Brian received his MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management and his BA from Williams College. Brian is a native of Needham, Massachusetts.
