Road to Responsibility Celebrates AKTION Club, Partnership with Marshfield Kiwanis Club

2/17/21

Road to Responsibility (RTR), one of the region’s largest and most successful nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, in partnership with the Marshfield Kiwanis Club, continues to celebrate volunteerism and inclusion through its AKTION Club.

The AKTION Club was created six years ago by Road to Responsibility as a way for their individuals to be part of a group that gives back to the community, and operates under the umbrella of the Marshfield Kiwanis Club, an organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

RTR’s AKTION Club now has 36 members – all individuals served by RTR. The club meets every other Monday and engages in activities such as collecting food donations for the Marshfield Food Pantry, collecting box tops to support Marshfield Public Schools, a yearly car wash, bowling and bingo.

Another yearly activity of the AKTION Club is a holiday party, which provides an opportunity for members of the Kiwanis Club to generously donate a gift to each individual in the club. This year, despite not being able to host the annual party in person, the gift-giving tradition continued. Road to Responsibility’s AVP of Residential Services Katerina Danova and her daughter Amelie, a fourth-grade student at South Shore Charter Public School in Norwell, played Santa and delivered all the gifts.

“We are so grateful for the support of the Marshfield Kiwanis Club and their members that generously donated gifts to spread holiday cheer to RTR’s AKTION Club, and who provide such valued support year-round,” said Christopher White, Ed.D., CEO of Road to Responsibility.

About Road to Responsibility, Inc.

Celebrating over 30 years of making lives better, Road to Responsibility, Inc. (RTR) was established in 1988 with the overarching belief that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve to have full, rich, and rewarding lives in the community, and therefore works to provide the means, the opportunity, and the support necessary to allow citizens with disabilities to take their place as productive members of the community. RTR offers residential, work/employment, day habilitation and other day supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. RTR supports individuals with very diverse needs, including those with significant challenges who would otherwise go unserved if not for RTR. It succeeds where other organizations often fail, through the use of an integrated clinical behavioral approach. This model has proven successful and yielded positive results for the organization and the individuals served.

Road to Responsibility offers services to almost all the towns and communities throughout the South Shore and South Coast of Massachusetts, operates 49 residences as well as co-operative and supportive living apartments, and manages nine day-service locations that focus on education, employment, and community enrichment. Road to Responsibility’s main office is located at 1831 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA. For more information, please visit www.roadtoresponsibility.org.
