Comprehensive Benefit Administrators, a company combining traditional brokerage services with specialty services such as advocacy, claims administration, benefits expertise, and compliance, today announced that Fort Myers resident, Boston native, and veteran sportscaster Joe Girvan has joined its team as Business Development Manager at their Florida office, located at 100 S. Ashley Drive, Tampa.

In this role, Girvan will work with CEO Michael J. McKenna to help build the firm’s business in this expanding market. He will also assist in the company’s ongoing educational efforts through seminars and workshops on the topics of benefits and healthcare.

Girvan is a native of Marlborough, MA who relocated to Florida after, in his words, “18 years of snow and cold.” He is well-known in the sports broadcasting industry; after interning for Bob Lobel at WBZ, he left for the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunication/Broadcast News.

His first sportscasting position was in Mobile, AL, at WPMI. He then returned to Gainesville, FL where he was Sports Director for nearly eight years at ABC affiliate, WCJB TV-20, leading a three-person team, anchoring sportscasts, and serving as the go-to personality for appearances and charity events. He later joined Bay News 9 and Bright House Sports Network in the Tampa/Orlando area, and then the Gainesville Television Network’s NBC and CBS affiliates. Girvan produced all local sports content for this start-up operation. His resume also includes a stint as a sports anchor for ESPN West Palm and WPTV. His work in this field earned him the 2017 Florida Associated Press Sportscaster of the Year designation; 2017 Fort Myers News-Press Best of Southwest Florida “Best Sportscaster” honors, and numerous other awards. During his time as a broadcaster, he interviewed thousands of sports personalities including Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Tim Tebow.

In addition to a strong sports background, he is a licensed auctioneer; when he decided to shift directions, he also earned his life and health insurance licenses.

“I worked for a financial services firm here in Fort Myers for a while,” he recalls, adding, “When I met Mike and his team, the opportunity to be part of this growing venture was something I couldn’t pass up. He and his wife, Jennifer, live in Fort Myers, although he has family in Massachusetts and returns here fairly often. One of his hobbies, in fact, is Wiffleball, and he plays in a tournament each year in Swansea, MA. Despite calling Florida his home, he remains an avid Red Sox fan and notes that that where he lives is but a short distance from where the Red Sox play their spring training games.
