Womble Carlyle Expands into Boston

US law firm Womble Carlyle – soon to become Womble Bond Dickinson – has opened an office in Boston.

The new office will extend the firm’s footprint into the Northeast and New England region and enable Womble Carlyle – and in the longer term Womble Bond Dickinson – to strengthen its presence up and down the East Coast of the US. The office initially will provide intellectual property (IP) and other services to clients in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, and related industries.

The Boston office will be led by long-time Womble Carlyle IP partner and practice group leader Sarah Keefe who will act as Office Managing Partner. She will be joined by a strong team specialising in IP with more lawyers set to join the office in the weeks and months ahead.

“Boston has been on the firm’s radar for years and makes sense for many reasons,” said Womble Carlyle Chair & CEO Betty Temple. “The firm has a well-established reputation in both Intellectual Property and the pharmaceutical and life sciences industries. Our clients in Boston will experience the trusted counsel, deep capabilities and resources our firm offers our other clients throughout the country’s leading innovation centres.”

Later this year, Bond Dickinson will combine with Womble Carlyle to create a new law firm – Womble Bond Dickinson. Womble Bond Dickinson will have more than 420 partners, 1,000 lawyers and 2,395 people across 8 offices in the UK and 16 offices in the US, including Boston. The combination will put Womble Bond Dickinson in the UK's top 20 and in the top 80 in the US listings.
