Cape Cod Lumber Frames the Future with South Shore Habitat for Humanity

11/16/17

Cape Cod Lumber (CCL), one of the region’s largest building supply retailers, aims to raise employee benefits and wellness to new levels with their South Shore Habitat for Humanity partnership.

Earlier this year, Cape Cod Lumber and South Shore Habitat announced a multi-year citizenship initiative, aimed to build awareness and funds for the charity organization, which practices a philosophy of “a hand up, not a handout.” Over the next 12 months, teams of CCL employees will swap their daily routines for hammers and spend the day building a new home in Duxbury, just one of many engagement activities that will be made available to CCL folks.

Cape Cod Lumber sees the partnership as a natural fit. Not only do the employee volunteers spend a day upright and active and get a healthy feeling of accomplishment, they are also helping to raise awareness on the growing lack of affordable housing within Massachusetts.

Harvey Hurvitz, president of Cape Cod Lumber said “Our company and its employees have always had a deep relationship with our local communities”. “South Shore Habitat has been doing great things in the same communities for years. We are both in the shelter industry which makes this such a natural partnership for us”.

“There has never been a more important time to stand up for quality, affordable housing. We know that making sure families have decent places to call home is absolutely vital to the health, well-being and stability of our communities. All of our neighbors, Of all of us,” he said.

Cape Cod Lumber is sponsoring the new Duxbury build site from framing to completion by funding lunches for volunteers who work on the site throughout the year, raising money for building supplies and promoting awareness among their customers and corporate partners.
