Stamford Urby Breaks Ground On New Rental Concept

10/4/17

Stamford Urby will feature nearly 650 Apartments Across 11 Distinct Buildings

Stamford Urby, a transformative residential development set to reinvent rental housing in Downtown Stamford, broke ground today. The groundbreaking ceremony was led by project developer, Ironstate Development Co., the Hoboken, N.J.-based real estate firm that is bringing the Urby brand to major markets in the Tri-state area, joint venture partner, Brookfield Property Group, and the Mayor of Stamford, David Martin. Located on the corner of Greyrock Place and Tresser Boulevard, Stamford Urby will occupy a 4.3-acre site and will be the fourth Urby development in operation, following the successful openings of other Urby properties in Staten Island, Jersey City and Harrison, N.J.

Stamford Urby will be completed in two phases and feature nearly 650 apartments spread across 11 buildings.Designed in a square-like shape to express the vast scale of the project, ten of the 11 residential buildings will be connected on the outside and at the heart will be one building that jets out in the middle. The metal and glass warehouse-style of architecture pays homage to Stamford’s industrial past and large windows will provide an abundance of light. The first phase of Stamford Urby consists of nine buildings, which together house 464 rental apartments.

Stamford Urby is a joint venture partnership by Ironstate and Brookfield Property Group, with architecture, interiors and landscaping by Concrete, the award-winning Dutch design firm responsible for citizenM Hotels around the world. Conceptualized by Ironstate and Concrete, Urby is a complete re-think of the residential rental-housing concept that is design driven, tailored to fit every neighborhood and developed with the needs of the contemporary urban renter in mind.

“Stamford and this location in particular have everything we look for when scouting new Urby locations,” said David Barry, President of Ironstate. “Stamford has a vibrant and diversified economy that attracts young professionals similar to other Urby developments in New York and New Jersey. Urby’s proximity to the waterfront, walkability and access to mass transit will introduce a new lifestyle that hasn’t been seen in the Stamford residential market.”

“We are excited that the Urby concept is coming to Stamford as it has been a key addition to other vibrant communities like ours,” said Stamford Mayor, David Martin. “This is an important project for Stamford and the planning for development on this site began several decades ago. My administration has worked hard to move this project along and we are happy that we are finally filling the infamous ‘hole in the ground.’”

With a focus on experience and community, Stamford Urby will feature smartly designed residences – which include studios, one- and two-bedroom apartments – and shared communal spaces that encourage natural opportunities for neighbors to meet and interact. The apartments offer style and functionality with sizeable layouts and high-ceilings, and come equipped with bespoke home accessories such as built-in wardrobes, storage spaces, bookshelves, window treatments, lighting and are pre-installed for Wi-Fi. The bathrooms and kitchens feature quality finishes and every apartment comes with a washer/dryer. Future residents will also have keyless building and apartment entry through smart technology systems located throughout the development.

Ultimately creating a dynamic living experience, amenities at Stamford Urby will include a gym, landscaped courtyard with fire pits and a saltwater swimming pool, and a communal kitchen where neighbors can meet and interact through thoughtful programming. The Urby Kitchen is a communal chef’s kitchen that is used to host culinary classes, wine tastings and events from local business owners, including pop-up dinners.Additionally, a café with outdoor seating will be located at the entrance to the development and open to the public, and 550 parking spots will be available to residents.

Urby will provide a new and unique residential opportunity for those living in Downtown Stamford with an emphasis on community experiences and shared social settings. Urby’s location also boasts close proximity to a hot nightlife scene that has grown at a face pace in recent years – with new restaurants, bars, movie theaters and cultural institutions just steps away. Stamford Urby residents will also have access to the best mass transit options in the North East, with New York City less than an hour away.

Construction for the second phase is expected to start late 2019 and will include the remaining 184 homes and two buildings. For updates on Stamford Urby and more information on the Urby brand, visit www.urby.com and follow @UrbyLife on Instagram and Facebook.
