Michael Wheeler and Matthew Robbins Join Liquidity

9/10/17

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Emerging Markets boutique trading firm Liquidity Finance is expanding into the European High Yield space. Following 8 years of sustained growth of its institutional EM brokerage business, Liquidity has hired Michael Wheeler who joins the firm as Managing Director with the mandate to build a High Yield bonds trading platform. Prior to Liquidity, Michael was Head of European High Yield Trading at Bank of America, Morgan Stanley and, most recently, at BNP Paribas where he was responsible for market making activities. Michael will be based in London and will report to Faisal Mian and Jon Hinton, co-founders of Liquidity.

Michael is joined at Liquidity by Matthew Robbins, formerly a senior High Yield Credit analyst at BNP Paribas in London, and before that a credit analyst at a hedge fund Observatory Capital.

Michael and Matthew are highly experienced market professionals, who bring to Liquidity multiple years of both buy-side and sell-side expertise in High Yield credit trading, analysis and idea generation. “I am excited about the opportunity to start and lead a High Yield team at Liquidity. Our goal is to provide value through our experience and fill a gap in liquidity as banks continue to face increased regulation affecting risk appetite”, says Michael Wheeler.

Faisal Mian comments, “I am pleased to have Mike and Matthew on board as a first step to develop a European High Yield business line at Liquidity. There will be more hires to follow and I would like to see the best in class High Yield sales and traders to come join our effort. We have created a strong Emerging Markets Credit platform over the past few years and our success with the EM high yield business provides us with a very good understanding of credit markets. We now have a tremendous opportunity to extend our product range to European High Yield Credit as we aim to grow it into a successful, client driven franchise.”
