Continuing to grow its dynamic storytelling team, MK3 Creative announced today that John Lawrence has joined the agency in the dual role of creative director and director of photography. Lawrence, who brings more than 20 years of cinematography and directing experience to the company, works with the creative team to conceptualize and create video and graphic projects for broadcast, digital and print. Since joining MK3, Lawrence has worked on several projects including a national broadcast commercial for Big Papi’s Kitchen.

Before joining MK3, Lawrence was the creative director and director of photography at Ventana Productions in Washington, D.C., where he created and directed a number of commercials and corporate communications projects for national and international organizations including Honeywell and the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He also acted as the director of photography on dozens of documentaries, TV shows and commercials, including the Emmy Award-winning TV show “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” and the documentary “Remembering Vietnam: The Wall at 25,” for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award in cinematography.

Lawrence spent six years working in Los Angeles as a successful director of photography where he worked on a series of high-profile film and TV projects, including the Disney documentary “Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years” starring Steve Martin and publicity and promos for the popular ABC-TV shows “Alias” and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.”

Prior to that, Lawrence worked at a Boston-based marketing and creative agency where he developed commercial and documentary projects for regional and national organizations, including Jordan’s Furniture, Major League Baseball and Papa Gino’s. Lawrence got his start in the industry working on feature films in Boston as a gaffer and key grip.

“John has a phenomenal range of creative and cinematography experience, particularly with live-action projects, and has quickly become a fundamental part of our growing creative team,” said Joel Kaplan, co-founder and CEO of MK3 Creative. “Having John on our creative team will be incredibly valuable as we continue to grow our live-action production capabilities.”

Lawrence earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he also minored in fine arts and film studies. In his free time, he coaches youth basketball, soccer and baseball, and directs and produces short films and documentaries. Lawrence most recently produced "Return to Normandy," a half-hour documentary about a decorated WWII veteran and his return to the site of the D-Day invasion. He lives in Milton with his wife and children.
