Howard Elkus to Posthumously Be Honored with NAIOP's Edward H. Linde Public Service Award

NAIOP Massachusetts is proud to announce that they will honor the late Howard Elkus with the Edward H. Linde Public Service Award. Recipients of this award are chosen based on their civic and charitable contributions, along with a life-long commitment to the highest values of service to the greater community. John Fish of Suffolk Construction will present the award honoring Howard Elkus' legacy to David Manfredi at NAIOP's Annual Awards Gala. The Gala takes place on Thursday, November 9 at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in Boston.

"Because Howard Elkus had a such deep beliefs surrounding civic contributions, collaboration and enhancing the public realm, we cannot think of anyone more deserving of this award," said David Begelfer, CEO of NAIOP Massachusetts. "We are fortunate that Howard left such an incredible mark on our city."

An internationally acclaimed architect and urban designer, Howard Elkus was a founding principal of Elkus Manfredi Architects at the time of his death in April of 2017. His distinguished career spans five decades, first with The Architects Collaborative (TAC) and then with Elkus Manfredi Architects, the firm he co-founded with David Manfredi in 1988. The architecture firm is now the largest in Boston and a national leader in LEED and environmentally appropriate design.

With an extensive portfolio of well-known projects, Howard's vision had a positive impact on communities around the world. The many notable projects that he designed include Boston's Copley Place and Heritage on the Garden, Al Maryah in Abu Dhabi, CityPlace in West Palm Beach, Las Vegas City Hall and the 1 million sq. ft retail podium at Hudson yards in New York. He was also the master planner and designer of multiple buildings for Emerson College's campus relocation to the Boston theatre district.

Howard was a force of nature with boundless energy focused on giving back to the community. He served on the board for Boston Architectural College, Old North Foundation, Artists for Humanity and the HealthBridge Foundation.
