BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Piaggio Fast Forward, a company formed to pioneer the future of light mobility by fundamentally rethinking the movement of people and goods, has been selected as a winner in the category of Disruptive Genius for the 2017 MITX Awards.

Piaggio Fast Forward received the highly sought-after Disruptive Genius award for distinction in “unconventional innovative thinking, being the first to explore new frontiers and promoting the innovation economy through its operations.”

The MITX Awards show is the largest and most prestigious annual awards competition in the country for technology and digital innovation. The categories in this year’s program showcase the disruptive marketing, creative, and emerging technologies happening in New England. Winners were announced in 24 categories at a sold-out event held on May 25th at the Royale Boston.

"We are honored to be recognized with such a prestigious award," said Jeffrey Schnapp, CEO of Piaggio Fast Forward. "This recognition from MITX is a tribute to the hard work, dedication, and vision of the team here at PFF as well as the support from Piaggio Group."

Piaggio Fast Forward's first offering is Gita (pronounced "jee-ta" which means "short trip" in Italian), a robot that is able follow a human operator or move autonomously by itself in mapped environments. Gita can carry up to 40 pounds and moves indoors and outside, traveling at human speeds.

“This year’s entries exemplified the curious intellect that drives innovation in Boston,” said Amy Quigley, President of MITX. “It was an exciting evening marking 21 years of creativity and industry leading ideas in technology. I was overwhelmed by the energy.”

The 2017 MITX Awards was made possible by the generous support of its sponsors and partners: SapientRazorfish, Cushman & Wakefield, fama PR, Innovation and Design Building, Atom, Lindt USA, State, Zero VFX, and Mass AV.
