WICN Public Radio Names Jazz Artist Amanda Carr as Executive Director

5/24/17

WORCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WICN Public Radio, a National Public Radio affiliate station, today announced that Amanda Carr has joined the organization as executive director. In addition to her music and production background, Carr brings sales and marketing knowledge to her role at the public radio station. She takes the reins from Tom Lucci, former WICN board president, who has been acting as interim general manager.

“Our board, staff, and volunteers are all thrilled to have Amanda join the team,” said Jeffrey Duquette, WICN’s board president. “We know that she will prove to be a strong and active community leader and will promote WICN in the communities we serve.”

Carr is a proven entrepreneur who shares the passion and vision that many see as the future of WICN. An accomplished performer and recording artist in her own right with strong ties to the musician community, Carr has been nominated twice as Jazz Artist of the Year by the Boston Music Awards, and has performed with a range of artists from James Montgomery to Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, as well as many name big bands such as the Glen Miller and Artie Shaw Orchestra. In addition, Carr is an active member on the board of directors for Boston Women in Media and Entertainment, and was formerly on the board of Standish Humane Society and WICN. She was also the founder and former CEO of the American Big Band Preservation Society.

“It’s an honor to be taking on this new and exciting leadership position at WICN,” said Carr. “This station gave me my first interview as a jazz artist over 20 years ago, and I have been a loyal contributing member ever since, with a closeness to many of the hosts and staff. I’m looking forward to being an integral part of the emerging and exciting central Massachusetts arts scene along with WICN.”

For nearly five decades, WICN has been a culturally enriching force in Worcester, recently undertaking a successful mini-campaign to raise almost $250,000 to broaden its capacity and mission to educate, entertain, and inform, as well as contribute to the collective branding of Worcester as a rich cultural New England destination.
