Hotel on North has received a 2017 Paul & Niki Tsongas Award for its preservation efforts in downtown Pittsfield. The awards are the highest form of recognition for preservation efforts in the Commonwealth. They are presented by Preservation Massachusetts, and celebrate projects that show the power of preservation while embodying their true essence. The hotel was honored in the Best Main Street Project category.
The iconic property has contributed to the re-emergence of Pittsfield's downtown area through investment and commitment to both North Street and the surrounding community. Through the thoughtful conversion of an 1880's department store, the renovated hotel is helping to give the heart of the city a new beat.
"Even though it's been two years since we first opened our doors, we are still thrilled, moved and amazed by the outpouring of support and accolades from our community and peers," explains Laurie Tierney, owner of Hotel on North. "All we wanted to do was make our little corner of the world a little brighter and at the same time, benefit the city that we live in."
The Preservation Massachusetts awards, first presented in 1988, honor winners with a dinner each May to recognize and celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to preserving the Commonwealth's historic resources. This year's dinner is being held on Wednesday, May 10, 2017.
Hotel on North has also been designated as one of the "Top 10 New Hotels in America" by Architectural Digest. In addition, it was one of a select group of hotels honored in the Outstanding Service Category of the 2017 TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Awards for Hotels.
