Doherty and Hamilton represent first female board members in organization’s history

Winning Home, Inc., a private, non-profit charitable organization that provides services and support to economically, socially, physically, emotionally, or mentally handicapped or disadvantaged children and their families announced today the election of Ellen Hamilton and Eileen Doherty to its board of directors. Both women are the first to serve on the board since its founding in 1898.

“Our organization is successful due to the hard work and dedication of those who serve on its board,” said Albert F. “Chip” Curran, treasurer of Winning Home. “We are fortunate to have Ellen and Eileen join our ranks, and look forward to their insight and contributions as we identify new areas of need in the communities we serve.”

A Woburn resident for the last 26 years and a board member of the Woburn Historical Society for the last seven, Ellen Hamilton became involved with Winning Home through professional contacts and a personal interest in the welfare of the community’s children. Upon college graduation, she worked as a victim/witness counselor in her local district attorney’s office and volunteered in a domestic abuse shelter, providing support and a home for women and children.

“From early in my career, I have harbored a desire to help those in need, and my experiences just out of college taught me the impact of community-based programs,” says Hamilton. “I know how critical, and sometimes difficult, it is to continuously sustain and/or seek new funding from reliable sources. Winning Home is a financially sound charitable trust that brings much-needed resources to service organizations. I want to be part of a group that directly impacts the goals of the organizations that help children and their families.”

Ms. Hamilton’s goal on the board is to gain a deeper understanding of the Winning Home financials and the grant acceptance process in order to effectively contribute to the board’s efforts of continuously enhancing the sustainability of the trust. Professionally, Ms. Hamilton splits her time as a freelance professional photographer and as the business manager of George’s Auto Body in Woburn. She lives in Woburn with her husband George, and her daughter, Kaleigh.

Eileen Doherty’s family has resided in Woburn for many generations, and as such, she has been familiar with Winning Home since its inception, and its previous incarnation, Winning Farm, since she was a young child.

“I believe in giving back to the community that has sustained me throughout life,” said Doherty. “Winning Home has benefited so many more people and organizations through their financial donations than the general public realizes. I very much want to be a part of fostering, and spreading the news of that good will.”

Currently working for Lamacchia Realty, Doherty has been a successful realtor in Woburn for the past 35 years. She is a three-time past president of the Woburn Middlesex Lions and currently sits on its board of directors, and is also on the board of directors for the Woburn public library foundation.  She currently lives in Woburn.

Winning Home, Inc. is governed by a board of directors under the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. All directors of Winning Home, Inc. serve on a volunteer, unpaid basis. Individuals who are nominated to serve have demonstrated experience and accomplishment in his or her chosen endeavors in business, their profession, non-profit fields, maintain good standing within their communities and have a positive record of charitable involvement in one or more positions.
