Grant Thornton’s Boston Office Admits Four New Partners

Grant Thornton LLP admitted Anthony Fuccione as Audit partner, Rob Michaelis as Tax partner, Lisa Russell as Audit partner and Jarrod VanDerwerken as Audit partner in the firm’s Boston office. Across the firm, Grant Thornton admitted 47 new partners and principals and promoted 29 professionals to managing director.

Partners and principals admitted to the firm are proven leaders that have demonstrated excellence in embracing the firm’s values and helping clients achieve smart, quality growth in all aspects of their businesses. Noted for their exceptional contributions to Grant Thornton, these experienced professionals demonstrate a great ability to build relationships with clients and people at all levels of the firm. Managing directors are the highest-level employee position in the firm and are important members of the firm’s leadership team.

Fuccione joined the firm in 2004 and has more than 20 years of experience with public and privately held companies in the consumer products, industrial products and technology industries. He is part of the firm’s National Professional Standards Group, where his responsibilities have included consultations on technical accounting matters, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) compliance and quality control. Prior to being admitted as partner, Fuccione served as a managing director.

Fuccione is a certified public accountant (CPA). He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. Fuccione received a master’s of business administration degree from Suffolk University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Merrimack College.

Michaelis joined the firm in 2010 and has more than 20 years of experience as a state and local tax consultant working for national accounting firms. His experience includes providing state tax compliance and tax accounting services, as well as consulting services related to business planning and reorganizations, due diligence and transaction reviews and tax controversy issues. His areas of tax expertise include income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, state employment taxes and unclaimed property issues. Prior to being admitted as partner, Michaelis served as a managing director.

Michaelis is a licensed CPA in Illinois and Massachusetts. He received a Juris Doctor from DePaul University and a bachelor’s degree in accountancy from Northern Illinois University.

Russell joined the firm in 1997 and has nearly 20 years of experience in both public and private companies, ranging in size from start-ups to large multi-national manufacturing companies. Her clients are represented in a number of industries; however, she is primarily focused on technology, manufacturing/distribution and health care. She has significant experience in the areas of software revenue recognition, complex equity instruments, initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions as well as restructurings. Prior to being admitted as partner, Russell served as a managing director.

Russell is a CPA in Massachusetts, and she is also a member of the AICPA and Massachusetts Society of CPAs. She received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Washington.

VanDerwerken joined the firm in 2011 and has more than 15 years of experience auditing public and private companies within the technology, manufacturing, distribution, retail and professional services industries. His experience includes domestic and international companies of all sizes, and his areas of expertise include SEC and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) rules and regulations, as well as audit issues centering on revenue recognition, complex debt, equity and stock-based compensation. Prior to being admitted as partner, VanDerwerken was a senior manager.

VanDerwerken is a CPA in Massachusetts. Additionally, he is a member of the AICPA and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. He received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lasell College.
