Copley Wolff Design Group Takes Part in Longwood Group’s Serenity Topping-Off Ceremony

Leading Landscape Architecture firm to provide premier design services for transformative multifamily property in Boston, MA

Copley Wolff Design Group, Inc. (CWDG), a Boston-based landscape architecture and planning firm, recently participated in the topping-off ceremony for Serenity, a 195-unit multi-family apartment building located at 105 South Huntington Avenue in Boston’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood overlooking Olmsted Park.

Working in collaboration with Contractor, Suffolk Construction Company and Architect, Prellwitz Chilinski Associates, CWDG will take part in Anthony Nader’s, Principal of Longwood Group, goal of transforming a vacant site into much-needed housing for those living in the Jamaica Plain and Mission Hill neighborhoods.

CWDG’s scope of work includes streetscape enhancements and landscape development of community green spaces, including a private interior courtyard for residents. The team has designed and planned the implementation of a terrace along Jamaicaway, which will offer views of Boston and provide access to the Emerald Necklace in an effort to offer a solution to the need of accessibility to public transit in the neighborhood.

Notably, CWDG’s design will protect nearly all the mature trees planted along Jamaicaway in order to adhere to the environmentally friendly approach of the LEED Silver certified property and preserve the history of the area. The terrace along Jamaicaway will contain native shrubs, flowering trees, and a decorative fence. The streetscape enhancements will include a plaza at the residential lobby entrance, seat walls, planters at the retail entries, new street trees, and a new bus shelter. The interior courtyard will feature flexible green space for gathering, expansive planting beds, and private and group seating.

“Our team is excited to bring what has been a comprehensive planning process to light and contribute to the growth of the neighborhood,” says John Copley, ASLA, President and Principal at Copley Wolff Design Group. “Our landscape design will create a peaceful haven for young professionals, doctors, nurses, and families looking to escape from the chaotic scene in the Fenway area. We are honored to take part in the transformation of Jamaica Plain and Mission Hill.”

Noteworthy attendees of the ceremony included Ralph Cole, event moderator and Serenity Project Manager, Richard Rouse, Executive Director of Mission Hill Main Streets (MHMS), Anthony Nader, Principal of Longwood Group, and Brian Golden, Director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

"We are excited to see the landscape vision become reality,” said Nader. “Copley Wolff's track record throughout the city speaks for itself. Serenity is so lucky to have had them a part of the team."

Golden, speaking on behalf of Mayor Marty Walsh and the City Council, spoke to the affordability, equity, and environmentally friendly characteristics of the project. “We should all be so lucky to live in a place like this,” said Golden. “Our city is indeed growing and with easy access to transportation, we hope Serenity will attract families, and especially medical professionals.”

Attendees of the event were treated to refreshments following the topping-off. Construction of the single building development that includes both townhouses and apartment buildings is due to be completed Spring 2017.
