American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:AMSC) is a Delaware Corporation. The Company is a power technology company, offering an array of proprietary technologies and solutions spanning the electric power infrastructure - from generation to delivery to end use. The Company is engaged in the renewable energy sector, providing proven, megawatt-scale wind turbine designs and electrical control systems. The company will announce its third quarter earnings on Thursday, February 9, 2012. The company is expected to report a loss.

Expectations: Analysts are expecting a loss of 45 cents per share, a swing from a profit of 33 cents a year ago. Despite not changing over the past month, the consensus estimate is down from three months ago when it was a loss of 37 cents. Analysts are expecting a loss of $1.78 per share for the fiscal year. The company is expected to report revenue less than last year's $114.2 million by 86% to finish at $16 million for the quarter. Revenue for the fiscal year is expected to be $77.1 million.

Performance: Revenue has fallen for the past three quarters. In second quarter, revenue declined 79.5% to $20.8 million while the figure fell 90.7% in first quarter from the year earlier and more than twofold in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year. Over the past quarter, the stock price has increased from $4.07 on November 8, 2011 to $5.78. American Superconductor's stock has been doing poorly lately. Between November 22, 2011 and December 19, 2011 the price fell 52 cents to close at $3.50.

Ratings: Most analysts (five of seven) rate American Superconductor a hold.
