BOSTON -- Halscion Inc., a biotech formed by TIF (The Innovation Factory), has raised $3.5 million in equity financing.

Citybizlist reported the company's October 2009 offering, which yielded $6 million of a targeted $35.5 million. Earlier Halscion also raised $4.5 million in Series A seed financing.

Named in the current SEC filing were executives from TIF, including CEO Steven Waite, COO and President Anthony Lando,Vice President of Finance Robert Leslie, and Kathleen Beauchamp.

Also listed were directors Gerard van Hamel Platerink of Duluth-based Accuitive Medical Ventures; Charles Warden of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Versant Ventures; James Garvey, Boston-based SV Life Sciences; and Ron Yamamoto.

Duluth, Ga.-based Innovation Factory finds medical technology ideas in their earliest stages, develops the products and leads them to market through new companies that TIF launches and manages.

Halscion, Inc., a medical device company, develops technologies and biomaterial to treat dermatological conditions and for wound management. It offers a device for the reduction in the appearance of scars resulting from acute surgical wounds.

Robert Leslie - Vice President, Finance
Bob brings over twenty years of financial, accounting and operational experience to The Innovation Factory. He has an extensive background with emerging growth organizations, and has held senior financial management positions with several venture capital financed technology and manufacturing companies. Additionally, Bob has served as Chief Financial Officer of Cordova Ventures, a venture capital firm located in Atlanta , Georgia.

Bob is a Certified Public Accountant and holds a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Texas Tech University , summa cum laude, and a master's degree in Professional Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin.

Steven Waite - CEO
Before joining The Innovation Factory, Mr. Waite founded PrimeVision Health, Inc., a business management company for eye care medical practices. He served as CEO/President and Chairman until the company was sold. Under his leadership, PrimeVision attained annual revenues of $130 million in 1998. Mr. Waite also co-founded HealthTech, a leading provider of outpatient cardiology services in the US , where he served as COO until the company was sold. Mr. Waite holds an MBA in Finance and a BA in Biology from Wake Forest University.

Anthony Lando - COO & President
Prior to joining The Innovation Factory, Mr. Lando was COO of BTG plc., a company focused on harnessing innovation, developing early stage technologies and executing commercial strategies in the life science, IT, engineering and healthcare markets. Mr. Lando gained extensive experience in operations, intellectual property development, financial management and fundraising for public and private companies, as well as in creating and developing technology-based companies. Mr. Lando also brings substantial knowledge of the international technology market, having spent three years in BTG's London office where he was instrumental in supporting business growth in Europe and Asia Prior positions include Senior Marketing and Product Development with Philips Medical Systems in the areas of digital radiography, cardiovascular imaging and PACS.

Mr. Lando began his career with Stone & Webster Engineering as an Environmental Physicist in the nuclear power division. He holds a BS in Physics from Manhattan College and graduate degrees in Nuclear Engineering and Imaging Physics from Georgia Tech and the University of California , respectively.

Thomas Weldon - Chairman
A co-founder of The Innovation Factory, Mr. Weldon currently serves as Chairman of The Innovation Factory as well as offspring companies including LipoSonix, NeoVista and Cellutions. He is also co-founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Accuitive Medical Ventures and Chairman of Novoste Corporation. A prolific inventor, he holds more than a dozen issued U.S. patents on medical devices. Mr. Weldon holds an MBA from Indiana University and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University .

James Garvey
James Garvey joined SVLS in May 1995 and served as CEO & Managing Partner of SVLS through 2009. James brings a successful healthcare investment track record, preceded by 18 years of operating management experience. James has served on the boards of private and public companies in the US and Europe including Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Allscripts Pharmaceuticals, Arris Pharmaceuticals, LaserVision Centers, Orthovita, Shire Pharmaceuticals and Sunrise Assisted Living. More recent private company investments include Acufocus, Cardiofocus, Halscion, Ocular Therapeutics and recently exited LenSx and CHF Solutions.

Prior to joining SVLS, he was Managing Director for the $600m Venture Capital division of Allstate Corporation preceded by managing Allstate's healthcare investment activity. He has held several senior management positions in companies with multinational operations including Kendall (Covidien) & Millipore. He was also President/CEO of Allegheny International Medical Technology and National Teledata.

Gerard van Hamel Platerink - Accuitive Medical Ventures
Gerard helped to co-found AMV in 2003. Prior to joining AMV, Gerard worked at Novoste Corporation, the cardiovascular brachytherapy company, in business development and corporate communications. Before joining Novoste, Gerard was an equity research analyst with Salomon Brothers (now Citigroup) in London, where he focused on the medical device sector.

Gerard began his career with Kleinwort Benson, where he was an investment banker and member of the bank's private equity and mezzanine finance group. Gerard is a Dutch national, was born in Borneo in Southeast Asia, grew up in Africa and was educated in the UK where he got his BS in Physics from St. Andrews University and an MBA from Cambridge University.

Gerard is the founder of Halscion (funded by Versant Ventures, SV Life Sciences and AMV) and Sebacia (funded by Versant Ventures, Domain Associates and AMV) and currently has board responsibilities for Halscion, Sebacia, Axogen, Neuronetics and CardioFocus.
